Let me begin by offering my sincere hope that during these unprecedented days, that this note finds you and all of your families and friends, healthy and safe!
I wanted to share the good news that, despite the strange days we find ourselves living in, the Yuke is moving forward!
This year's gathering - our 25th on the shores of Glenbrook! - will take place from Thursday, October 1 through Sunday, October 4.
Certainly, we have to be cognizant of the current pandemic and gathering together a group of 15-20 people, but after some thoughtful and productive conversations with Mike and George, we've agreed that the weekend is something we can reasonably, safely and enjoyably move forward with, despite the challenges.
Our approach is a pragmatic one - each person will make the decision to attend, knowing that they will be responsible for their own level of safety and comfort during our four days together.
Choices such as maintaining a 6ft distance from others, wearing a mask, where to sleep, etc. will be the choice and responsibility of the individual and not mandated to the group.
Having said all that, we have all adopted new habits and routines over the last few months - frequent washing of our hands, using hand sanitizer, wiping down frequently used items, sneezing or coughing into a sleeve, etc. - and we should expect that there will be a common, organic baseline of social precautions that will help us be responsible to one another.
But to reiterate, any precautions past this baseline will be the responsibility of the individual. It is just too hard to dictate more stringent requirements and police a large group in fairly tight quarters.
You should assume that out of respect for one another, we will all do our best within these guidelines; we just can’t assume perfection or even sufficiency in every case.
I know that myself, Mike and George will all be attending. However, we all have our own individual risk profiles and considerations for our loved ones to think about.
Ultimately, if the risk of catching Covid19 is not an option, you may want to consider not attending. I'm confident that we will each support each other’s own personal decisions on attendance and precautions. If we don’t see you this year, we will look forward to seeing you next year.
Lastly, and I think that we all know this, if you plan to attend, please cancel and stay home if you have any inkling of sickness prior to the event. No harm, no foul for a last-minute cancellation.
The Yuke will unfold as it traditionally does - arrivals beginning on Thursday, great food, drink and conversation throughout the weekend, Buck'em after dinner, golf on Saturday and departures on Sunday.
We probably won't have the usual slate of College Football games to watch, but if all goes well, we'll have the first weekend of playoffs in MLB.
We would however respectfully request that folks stay out of bars and casinos during their stay. In terms of the golf course, we will follow their rules for the course and eating and drinking facilities.
Knowing that schedules are written in pencil more than ever this year, I wanted to get the dates to you guys as soon as we could to help you plan.
So, what’s next…?
Once you get a sense of your ability to attend/not attend, bounce the email i sent on 6/29 back to me (commish@theyuke.com) in the next few weeks with the answers to these questions;
YES or NO on attending the weekend?
YES or NO on playing in the Yuke on Saturday?
(Again, no one will be held to these initial answers - just trying to get an idea of where we are...)
while you’re here, explore the site a little bit!
