Summer is here and I hope you and yours are enjoying time together wherever this note may find you!
As always, with the summer off to a great start, it's only natural we should start talking about how to best end the summer? This brings us to the 45th annual Yukon Jack, which will take place the weekend of Thursday, October 6 through Sunday, October 9, the first full weekend in October!
Looking forward to seeing all of you at Glenbrook, enjoying the last, best part of the summer at Lake Tahoe. Looking forward to some great weather, absent tourists, and sunset cruises with the Allman Brothers.
Once again, many, many thanks to the Adams and Cook families! Their hospitality, generosity, and kindness are unparalleled. It is deeply appreciated by us all, and we are humbled by their graciousness.
Before I go too much further, as some of you may already know, the Commissioner's Office is in the process of moving!
As I type this note, I am house hunting in Washington DC, having accepted a position with the Gaylord Hotel at National Harbor, and I start on July 25th.
I'm looking forward to the new career challenge, absorbing all the culture, and Pac-12 After Dark games that start at 11p. Pat, I will soon feel your pain...
Back to the weekend...
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
With impeccable timing we have landed on a weekend where Cal has a bye... the upside is they won't lose...
Nationally, some good games -
- Auburn at Georgia
- Tennessee at LSU
- Texas at Oklahoma
- Ohio State at Michigan State
In the PAC-12 (All Times TBD)
- Oregon at Arizona
- Washington at ASU
- Oregon State at Stanford
- Utah at FUCLA
- Washington State at FUSC
NFL
On Thursday we have the option to watch the Colts take on the Broncos, or we can watch paint dry...
On Sunday, the Niners take on the Panthers, and the Raiders travel to KC for the Sunday night game
BASEBALL
If there is any hope for Bay Area baseball over the Yuke weekend, it would have to be Playoff Baseball, as the regular season ends on October 5.
Given the current state of affairs with both the A's and the Giants, this could be a blessing...
GOLF
The epic Shiners Children Open will be at the forefront of the PGA schedule, from TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas. With a field led by Ty Webb, Roy McAvoy , Kenny Lee Puckett and Shooter McGavin, this promises to deliver the goods.
If not, there's always the paint...
Looking ahead to the weekend, we'll embrace all of the Yuke traditions - Wet Woodies from Gar Woods (weather permitting) and a welcome dinner on Thursday, sunset cocktails on Friday, golf on Saturday, as 2021 champion Alan Metheny defends his title. We're still exploring courses, but we're sure to find one that will challenge our brave and brawny bunch.
There will also be conversations on the deck, a bike ride along the way, the threat of climbing to the top of Shakespeare, Buck 'em 'til dawn...and all of the other wonderful conventions that make the Yuke, the Yuke!
In other words, another great weekend in paradise, as we renew these unique bonds of friendship.
As of now, like last year, there will be no COVID-related conditions in place at the house over the weekend, so it's business as usual for the Yuke. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
At this point in time, if you know one way or another if you can or cannot attend, bounce this email back and let me know what you're thinking.
Let me know if you're;
- PLANNING ON ATTENDING orUNABLE TO MAKE IT
- IN or OUT FOR GOLF ON SATURDAY
Of course, all responses are written in pencil until a few weeks out, but it never hurts to get a first pass at who might be attending. I'll send out another blast in late August to get a better sense of who's in and who's out.
Hope our paths can cross either in person or virtually, between now and late September, but if not, looking forward to seeing you all up at the lake!
